Metonic Records, a Bienne City, CH based independent music label founded in Brooklyn, NY by Manuel Engel - in collaboration with the Trash KollekTiv - in early 2005.
The moon circles the earth around 13 times a year while the earth travels around the sun. The points where the orbit of the moon intersect the Ecliptic are called the south and north lunar nodes – also known as the Metonic Cycle – move slowly in retrograde motion on the Ecliptic. These nodes complete one circuit of the Ecliptic in about 18.4 years. This cycle is what makes it possible to predict Eclipses, which happen when the new or full moons occur close to the nodel crossing points. Each album release takes one on such a journey - space is the place! Metonic Records curates avant-garde soundscapes that awaken desire, disrupt form, and invite transformation.
Metonic Records' releases have received considerable reviews and awards from all over the world. In 2005 Rename featured on Solipsist was announced a Billboard World Song Contest Winner (Category Jazz Top 3). In 2007 ME 3, an acoustic jazz trio featuring Chico Freeman was announced finalist (Category Jazz Top 5) at the Independent Music Awards. In 2018 Zinc City, a duo with Binney and Engel was announced finalist (Category EP Jazz Top 5) at the Independent Music Awards. In 2025 the song The Broadcaster by Meta Marie Louise and Soweto Kinch was announced as a Unsigned Only Music Awards - Runner Up (Category Instrumental).
